Magicka :: 85% :: EstimatePPH=0.25

Magicka Arcane

I really need to come up with a standard Rating system. I will backdate previous reviews and Ill try and be a bit more thorough. Minecraft is a basic review as although the game has plenty of depth its the kind of thing you need to experience. Magicka is a bit more standard in its game mechanics and isnt the largest game in the world to review. Especially when compared with the complexity of Minecraft.
I love this game tbh. Considering it simplicity and small development team, and initial bugs. It just feels finished, even when it was crashing every 20 seconds. (Its fixed now…)

Magicka is just as the name suggests a game that revolves around magic. It is a typical top down game with some RPG elements. Read the rest of this entry »

Reviews & Pound Per Hour

I’ve been thinking that I need to come up with a proper rating system and I’ve come up with a Game Rating which will be my opinion.

This rating is going to be a percentage out of 100% (obviously) and is entirely my opinion based on damage, style, control and aggression (Oops that’s Robot Wars)….

I will base this rating on:

Graphical Effectiveness – This doesn’t mean it has the best graphics but that they fit the game and don’t hinder the game play.

Gameplay – How entertaining, realistic or fun it is etc.

Features – Whether the game has enough to do to keep you from getting bored.

Multiplayer/Singleplayer – This is a balancing act and has an enormous room for debate so I’m not going into it now.

Difficulty – An important factor in today’s games as many are either way too easy or far too hard. I simple require an insane number of hours training.

Mods/Extras/Customisability – Many games survive the test of time and get more hours out of it from mods etc. They can keep the game alive however this is easily off set if the developers release enough content in the first place or keep up with updates.

Reliability/Support and Patches – Very Important as a poorly coded game with no support wont last long.

Control – Whether the game controls are customizable and easy to get used to. In the same respect being slightly difficult to master can be a bonus.

Anything else I can think of at the time. Eg a game may have an awful menu that drags it down a few notches or have a feature that doesn’t fall into any of the above catagories.

I hope eventually to review allot of older games but getting the time for that isn’t easy so Ill do my best.

PPH – I will also add a pound per hour or an estimate which will then be later updated with the price the game cost me divided by the number of hours I played it before getting bored. This gives the game a value to whether it is worth buying or not. Personally the price tag of a game doesn’t mean its worth it or not. A £35 game like Kane & Lynch that I got about 8 hours play out of is awful with a PPH of 4.3 where Killing Floor is £5 and ive got almost 200 hours so far giving it 0.025. Of course this is based on my figures but I will also take into account AbyssDarkstars times when rating a game. Anyway – The lower the figure the better the game is.

Let me know what you think to this. Personally I think its a pretty fair system but the only real solution is to give it a go yourself.

Minecraft :: 90% :: CPPH=0.65

Minecraft

MineCraft

This game is amazing, I cant really say more.

It is only in beta and you should bare that in mind as it is a little buggy and needs a lot more functionality but it is extremely addictive and worth trying.

Check out minecraft.net or some videos on YouTube.
